You did it! The end of the school year is nigh.
The school year for my children started remotely and moved to brick-and-mortar in September. I understand how fortunate we were to get back into buildings sooner than most.
Many schools ended with a short stint of face-to-face teaching while some schools remained remote for the entire year.
It was a year of adjustments—to technology, to remote teaching styles, to connecting with students via a camera and microphone.
We come out of the year with new ideas about how to integrate blended learning into the day-to-day of our schools.
Our teachers are more equipped to utilize technology effectively. Our students have learned to engage with their peers both asynchronously and synchronously. Our administrators have adapted teacher evaluations and professional learning to remote environments and hopefully have learned the value of building trust through the observation and evaluation process.
Parents around the world have juggled working from home with class Zoom schedules and unexpected child drop-ins during important work meetings. We have all spent A LOT of time with our children at home, with many of us surviving quarantines and barely-opened cities.
It’s been a long year. But it’s also been a year of growth. For all of us.
I will be putting the newsletter on a summer break for the next two months as I spend more time with my family traveling and enjoying much-needed rest from the sometimes tumultuous world of education.
I will continue to publish articles on Educate and welcome submissions from educators around the globe who have something to share.
Thank you for your readership, and I will see you back here in August.
